Salini Impregilo sends message of hope with Italy tricolour flag. Bridge of light in Genoa
GENOA, March 21, 2020 – The Genoa bridge under construction lit up at 7:30 p.m. with the colours of the Italian flag. After Palazzo Chigi in Rome was lit up with the colours on occasion of the anniversary of national unity on March 17, beams of light coloured green, white and red linked up the two extremities of the bridge being built over the Polcevera River, seen as a symbol of rebirth.
It is an initiative launched by Salini Impregilo – the group that is building the bridge with Fincantieri – to express solidarity with the country and the city of Genoa in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency.
It is a symbolic gesture to pay homage to the officials, doctors, health workers, security forces, store workers, truck drivers, volunteers and everyone else involved in saving lives and ensuring indispensable services for the country – all without rest. It is also a gesture that the group intends to use to thank all those workers and other people who work on its sites in Italy and elsewhere in the world, sharing a great sense of responsibility even in complex situations like the one in which we are living at the moment.
As the bridge in Genoa, which is approaching its completion, lights up with the colours of the Italian flag, the sound of the national anthem rings out across the port city’s historic plazas to invite residents to sing together from their homes along with all those who followed the event in live streaming on the Group’s website ().
The initiative will be done every evening from 7:30 p.m. and be transmitted to Genoa and the entire country as a message of hope with a concerted push forward to face as a united country this latest crisis. It also acts as a reminder of how Italy has always found the resources to overcome the crises it has faced, able to start again with force and courage.
